The goals of this position are: 1. To direct and co-ordinate youth work in Chalmers and South Gate Presbyterian Churches, 2. To plan and run a weekly youth meeting with the aim of encouraging the youth in worship and music, the sharing of faith stories, Christian Education, service and mission, social interaction and fun 3. To help promote and co-ordinate youth events 4. To communicate plans and progress with the youth on a monthly basis with the Session/Minister of theses two churches 5. To promote youth involvement in regular Sunday Worship Services 6. To encourage youth to participate in Presbytery Youth events such as “First Sunday Evening Worship” and the Presbyterian Young People’s Society as well as other appropriate Christian events.
The Person: 1. This person will demonstrate maturity and a personal faith commitment with a positive attitude towards youth and the youth culture. 2. This person should have experience in dealing with volunteers and youth and possess leadership skills for this type of work.
Time Commitment: 1. The coordinator will be expected to commit to 20 hours per month. 2. This will be a contract position for the period of one year, excluding the months of July and August (although summer activity can be negotiable). 3. The appointment is renewable on a yearly basis. The coordinator will be remunerated at the rate of $12 - $15 (?) per hour depending on qualifications and experience. 4. The coordinator will agree to a two month probationary period and give two weeks notice prior to resignation from this position.
Supervision, Support and Accountability 1. The coordinator will work under the supervision of the ministers with support from the Sessions of these two churches. 2. Supervision will entail one hour of personal supervision per month for the ten active months of the year. 3. The coordinator will be asked to sign an agreement outlining the above conditions as well as a statement that he or she is familiar with and agrees to abide by the ‘Leading with Care” Policy and the Policy on “Sexual Abuse and Harassment” of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. 4. The coordinator will also provide a current police check. 5. A Resource fund will be established to help develop programs and support the co-ordination of youth work.
